Go to Japan without leaving Houston

Kon’nichiwa! As we continue to explore how to travel around the world without ever leaving Houston, let’s go to Japan!

My daughters really love the Japan FIT store of Houston http://www.fitjpstore.com/ Conveniently located off of Beltway 8 and Bellaire Blvd., this store is similar to the 100 Yen stores of Japan. Although it isn’t as small as most 100 Yen stores, the content is the same. This is a great way to introduce Japan to children of all ages because of the wide assortment of fun items in stock. Want to try Japanese candy? Looking to add fun to a lunch box with Bento supplies? It is all here! The lovely staff of Japan FIT greet you when you walk in the door and there is often a free gift with purchase when you check out.

When you are at the check out look up at their origami crane display! There are a couple of fun bubble tea and Japanese restaurants in the same shopping center. You can make it an all day family outing. Be sure to have your camera handy because there are lots of fun things to see and try.

Before we leave Japan, it is important to play some J-Pop! Japanese Pop is a fun way to introduce Japanese to kids because it is so fun to dance to and the videos are also fun to watch. Most of the videos are kid friendly because of the modesty of the Japanese culture. It is win/win from a parenting perspective.

I hope you have enjoyed our trip to Japan. I look forward to going around the world in Houston with you again soon!

  1. And now my buddy Keisuke with whom I work can translate some of this stuff for me (although that might take some of the fun out of it).
